Argument leads to fatal shooting at Rapid City store

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Police have identified the victim of Friday’s shooting in front of a Family Dollar store.

Police say 43-year-old Johnathan Odom of Rapid City died from injuries he sustained after being shot Friday morning.

Police say they received reports of two males in a heated argument outside the Haines Avenue Family Dollar store.

During the course of the argument, one of the men shot the other man. The victim was transported to Monument Health for treatment. The other individual was taken into custody by RCPD.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Police say the man shot in a confrontation has died from his injuries at the hospital.

The name of the victim is still being withheld until next-of-kin notifications can be made.

Just after 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning, Rapid City Police Department received reports of two males in a heated argument outside of the Family Dollar on Haines Avenue in Rapid City.

During the course of the argument, one of the men shot the other man. The victim was transported to Monument Health for treatment. The other individual has been taken into custody by RCPD.

No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The names of the individuals are being withheld pending further investigation into the matter.
