Sessions introduce participants to FitLot low-impact workouts
RAPID CITY, SD—Looking to get fit after a few too many summer barbeques or Independence Day desserts?
The Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department’s Aquatics Division is hosting a four-week series of fitness sessions beginning next week at the AARP FitLot Fitness Park located between the Roosevelt Park Swim Center and Ice Arena, 125 Waterloo Street.
Registration is required, the sessions are open to the public and are scheduled Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between July 7 and August 1 from 6:30-7:15 a.m.
Participants can purchase a pass and sign up for classes at the Roosevelt Swim Center or online at https://rapidcity.activityreg.com or call 605-394-5223.
The classes will be operated by a certified group instructor with emphasis on cardio, endurance, bodyweight exercises and strength training FitLot Resistance opportunities include elliptical, stair stepper, chest press, hand cycle and resistance bands.
Swim Center Exercise Coordinator Sue Crossman is coordinating the sessions, which will be low-impact workouts for any level.
“These sessions are available to all fitness levels and they are a great way to introduce participants to the FitLot and to low-impact workouts,” said Crossman. “The FitLot area provides an outdoor atmosphere for a great fitness opportunity for people of any age and skill level.
When not utilized for classes, the FitLot area is available for free use by the community during scheduled Rapid City Park hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The AARP-sponsored outdoor fitness park was dedicated in August 2019.
