Absentee Voting Continues For Municipal/School Elections; Deadline June 2

RAPID CITY, SD — City officials remind the public absentee voting for the upcoming municipal and school board election has started.

This year’s municipal and school board election is Tuesday, June 3. In the municipal election, candidates are running in three of the City’s five wards.

The Pennington County Auditor’s Office oversees the municipal and school elections and those wishing to vote absentee can request a ballot or visit the office at 130 Kansas City Street. Absentee voting is available Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Early voting ends at 6 p.m. Monday, June 2.

The public can obtain further information on the municipal election by clicking on the ‘Election Information’ box on the Finance Department page on the City’s website at www.rcgov.org . The page includes maps of the City’s five wards, a link to the county auditor’s office with important information on current polling places, where to vote and types of forms available on the county’s election web site, as well as results of municipal elections dating back to 2015.

For the upcoming municipal election, in Ward one, Stephen Tamang and Lawrence ‘Larry’ Adams will vie for the open Council seat being vacated by incumbent Jesse Ham. In Ward four, incumbent Lance Lehmann will face a challenge from Eltina Three Stars. In Ward five, incumbent Pat Roseland will be challenged by Callie Meyer.

Facing no opposition, incumbents Bill Evans (ward two) and Greg Strommen (ward three) will represent their respective wards for three-year terms.

The new City Council will be sworn in Tuesday, July 7.
