Arthur Lloyd Anderson, known affectionately to friends and family as Artie, passed away peacefully of natural causes on August 26, 2024, in his hometown of Rapid City, South Dakota. Born on February 25, 1954, to the late Lloyd and Anna (Elizabeth) Anderson, Artie’s warm presence and generous spirit were a blessing to all who knew him throughout his 70 years of life.
Artie lived a full and vibrant life in the community where he was born and raised. He was a proud graduate of Rapid City Central High School and went on to build a robust career, first with Harvey Construction and then at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his family and friends.
He is survived by a loving family including his brother, Monte (Jerry) Anderson; sister, Sherry (George) Freeman; brother, David “Butch” Anderson; niece, Shawntae (Jesse) Shaw; grand-niece, Maytaya Davis; grand-nephew, Justin Shaw; grand-niece, Aliegh Shaw; grand-niece, Haleigh Ray Shaw; grand-nephew, Mike Harvey; grand-nephew, Jr Harvey; cousins, William (Kim) Anderson, Colin Anderson, Tyler Anderson, Amy Anderson, Chravis Anderson, Bob Anderson, Jimmy (Jenelle) Anderson, Sandy (Rick) Sullivan, Peggy Anderson, Richard Anderson, and Monty Dooner. Artie was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry Anderson.
Artie was a man whose heart was as open as the South Dakota sky. His generosity knew no bounds, his kindness touched countless lives, and his selfless nature made him a pillar in his community. Whether he was working on a construction project or helping out at the Civic Center, Art always put others before himself. His legacy of love and service will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
An avid fisherman, Artie spent many days casting his line in the tranquil streams and lakes of the Black Hills, finding joy and peace in the great outdoors. His infectious smile and hearty laughter were a natural lure, bringing people together. Artie knew how to enjoy life, whether by sharing a good joke, throwing a lively party, or simply being in the company of friends and family. His favorite tunes, “Oh Lord, It’s Hard To Be Humble” and “Fishing in the Dark,” were the perfect soundtrack to his fun-loving spirit.
In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” Artie lived by this philosophy, and his success is evident in the lives he touched and the joy he spread.
Arthur Lloyd Anderson will be dearly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. His was a life well-lived, full of laughter, generosity, and love, and he will be remembered as a true embodiment of the best of humanity. Rest in peace, dear Artie, and may your fishing lines be taut and your jokes forever bring smiles in the heavens as they did here on earth.
A Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, September 14, 2024 at The Campground, 2911 Canyon Lake Drive, Rapid City, SD 57702.
Interment will take place 1:00 PM Thursday September 19, 2024 at Mountain View Cemetery, 1901 Mountain View Road, Rapid City.
