Raymond Deon Aubert, Sr., a cherished pillar of his community and a beacon of joy to all who knew him, passed away peacefully of natural causes on September 7, 2024, in Rapid City, South Dakota. Born on October 12, 1942, in Colome, South Dakota, Raymond’s life was a testament to the power of love, hard work, and dedication to family. After graduating from Colome High School, Raymond embarked on a journey of entrepreneurship and service that would define much of his life. During his high school years as Colome Cowboy, he had a very accomplished athletic career including football, basketball and track. He proudly owned and operated the Colome Cafe for numerous years, where his warm smile and hearty laughter became as much a staple as the food served. His industrious spirit also led him to a 23-year tenure at the Homestake Gold Mine and 15 years of commitment to H S Precision. His work ethic was only matched by his devotion to his family and friends. Raymond’s life was enriched by the love of his family. He is survived by his daughters, Renae and her fiance (Jeremiah Simunek) Aubert, Carey and her husband Bart Fielder; his son, Ray Aubert, Jr.; and his adored grandchildren, Brinton Hamm, Mason Hamm, Kyle Aubert, Ashya Thomas and his favorite great-grandsons, Liam and Grayson Hamm. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vivia Aubert, his parents, Marvin and Ida Aubert, his siblings, Constance, Betty, Jerry, Sharon, and DeLaine and his grandson, Brayden Aubert. Each member of his family held a special place in his heart, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Raymond’s zest for life was apparent to all who encountered him. In his earlier years, he enjoyed the thrill of pheasant hunting, a pastime that spoke to his love for nature and adventure. His passion for dancing with his beautiful wife Vivia was known to many, as they often graced the dance floor with elegance and joy. Raymond’s ability to make friends wherever he went was a testament to his friendly nature, and his sense of humor brought laughter to any gathering. Those who knew Raymond would describe him as loving, funny, and friendly. His presence was a source of comfort and happiness, and his absence will be deeply felt by all. As we remember Raymond, we are reminded of the words of Helen Keller: “What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” Raymond’s legacy of love and laughter has indeed become a part of us, and his memory will forever be cherished. Raymond’s life was a journey of joy, connection, and unwavering commitment to those he loved.
