A crowd of 3,586 at the Fishers Event Center watched as the Indy Fuel earned their second shutout of the season. Rapid City Rush lose 3-0 against the Indy Fuel.
The first period saw solid action on both sides.
Tucker (Robinson, Petgrave,) at 7:34 scored with a sniper shot at Sergeev. Joseph (Moravec, Joyce) at 13:11 brought in the deuce for the Fuel. The first period ends 2-0 in favor of Indy.
Two penalties in the second period offered Rapid City the chance to shorten the Fuel’s lead. Joyce’s minor hooking call at 10:57 and Ennis’s two minute tripping penalty at 12:17 afforded Rapid City a 40 second five on three. Indy’s penalty kill negated both scoring opportunities on the power play for the Rush.
Ryan Wagner took a slap shot to the head from a fellow teammate in the closing seconds of the second period. He left the ice of his own volition. The second period ends 2-0 in favor of Indy Fuel.
Things didn’t happen until late in the third period at 15:21; a dance party melee ensued. Two-minute roughing minors were given to Pilon of the Rush and Lombardi and Cameron of the Fuel. Indy kills the penalty.
At 18:08, Grima took a roughing call. Manz’s (Berger) shorthanded empty net goal at 18:34 insured Owen Flores’s first career shutout. The Indy Fuel have now won the first and second game of this three game series.
Shots on goal were 28 to 22. Sergeev takes the loss saving 26. Flores takes the win stopping all 22 shots on net.
Billy Constantino of the Rapid City Rush and Chris Cameron of the Indy Fuel each played their 250th ECHL game tonight.
The final game of this out of conference series is Saturday November 15th at Fishers Event Center in Fisher Indiana.
