
RAPID CITY, S.D.– The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets drop another three set match and their second loss of the year to the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers. The Jackets fell down the stretch in the second set and struggled to keep it close in the first and the third sets. BHSU was not able to play spoiler to the Hardrockers RMAC Tournament run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Yellow Jackets lost the first set 25-9 making it the first time all season BHSU did not make it to double digit points in a set. South Dakota Mines had a .448 hitting percentage in that set while BHSU had a .040. The Hardrockers had three 4-0 runs and one 5-0 run while also having a 5-1 run.
- SD Mines started the second set with a 6-4 lead before BHSU tied it at seven. The Rockers went on a 3-1 run to make it 10-8 before the Yellow Jackets went on their first run of the game winning eight of the next nine points to make it 16-11. This included two kills by Emily Freeland, two blocks by Carsyn Mettler, and an ace by Ellie Thomas. SDM would answer with a 5-2 run that included two kills by Spearfish’s Maria Bauman to make it 18-16. BHSU would then win four of the next six to make it 22-18 with four kills by Randi Wellhoefer. Ivy Vindivich got three kills in a 7-1 run to shock the Yellow Jackets and take the set in a 25-23 comeback.
- The third set started off close with SDM holding a slight 6-5 lead before winning three in a row to make it 9-5. Each team would grab back-to-back points to make it 11-7 with each team splitting the next ten points to make it 16-12. SDM would put the final nail in the coffin by going on a 9-4 run to win 25-16 in the third and final set and take the match 3-0.
