This Thursday November 13, the holiday season arrives early in Rapid City when the Grammy-winning a cappella powerhouse, Pentatonix, brings their A Christmas in the City tour to the heart of the Black Hills. The show will take place at The Monument in Summit Arena, promising a dazzling evening of festive harmonies, seasonal classics, and high-energy performance.

Tour details & what to expect

Pentatonix officially announced their 2025 Christmas in the City tour across North America, kicking off on November 8 in West Valley City, Utah. Fans in Rapid City are gearing up for what promises to be one of the major holiday concert events of the year locally.

Known for their electrifying live presence and seamless vocal blend, Pentatonix typically deliver crowd-pleasers like “Mary, Did You Know?” and “Hallelujah,” alongside both traditional carols and contemporary holiday songs. In 2025 they are also supporting their recently released holiday-themed album Christmas in the City, which dropped on October 24, 2025.

“We try to bring the cheer, the joy, the love,” said Kevin Olusola, Pentatonix’s beatboxer and cellist. “We’re five people who are extremely different, but we harmonize really well — musically and personally. That’s the kind of love and joy we want to bring, especially in such a crazy time.”

The show blends a nostalgic forties-inspired sound with sleek, modern production. “It feels like such an elevated show for us,” Olusola explained. “It’s very glitz and glamour, very chic — and we’re so excited to bring that new sound we’ve been toying with to South Dakota.”

Behind the music

Pentatonix’s latest project even features a posthumous duet with Frank Sinatra, one of Olusola’s favorite highlights.

“Making the record with Frank Sinatra’s vocal was so special,” he said. “You can hear the orchestra in the background, even the rustling of the paper he was reading off of. It was just such an amazing opportunity — and we have to thank the estate for even allowing us to do it.”

When asked about the visual spectacle fans can expect, Olusola didn’t hesitate:

“This is our best show to date,” he said proudly. “We put more work and effort than we ever have into making this show come to life musically and visually. It would be a travesty if you missed it.”

The heart behind the harmony

Despite their global success and polished production, Pentatonix remain grounded in the joy of family and connection. After their two-month holiday tour wraps, Olusola says the group’s favorite Christmas tradition is simple: going home.

“After a long run, we give ourselves the gift of being with our families,” he said. “It’s such a beautiful, crucial time before we come back together and rev up for the next year.”

He also reflected on how one viral YouTube video helped spark it all.

“We never realized how special what we had was until that first TV performance,” Olusola recalled. “It was lightning in a bottle.”

And when asked which holiday song makes him crank up the volume, he laughed:

“Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays by N’Sync. That song is joy incarnate,” Olusola said. “When it comes on, I turn up all the way to 100.”
