BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. – Authorities have identified a Belle Fourche woman who died in a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening eight miles west of Roscoe, SD.
Preliminary crash information indicates 63-year-old Shawna Laree Weishaar, the driver of a 2003 Toyota Highlander, was traveling eastbound on US Highway 12 near mile marker 241 when a deer ran into the roadway. Weishaar swerved to avoid the deer but struck it and entered the westbound lane, colliding with an oncoming 2018 GMC Sierra.
Weishaar sustained fatal injuries. 19-yyear-old Tacey Dean Miller of Webster, the driver of the GMC, sustained minor injuries. A passenger in the GMC also had minor injuries.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
