
Pennington County Sheriff’s Office announces reward after week passes with no arrests
RAPID CITY, S.D. – Bringing a horse killer to justice is worth $10,000 for Black Hills equestrians.
After a week without an arrests, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office announced that the owners of a horse found beaten to death with a shovel near Pactola Reservoir are offering a $10,000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
Authorities say the killing occurred in the area of McCurdy Gulch Road near the lake.
“We are asking for the public’s assistance with reporting any unusual activity in this area on the early morning hours of 10/9/2025,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “If you have cameras in this area, please review them.”
Investigators are working with the South Dakota State Veterinarian and continue to seek any tips that could help identify whoever is responsible.
