Anna E. Lehman

Anna E. Lehman, aged 101, passed away peacefully the morning of October 9, 2025 at Garden Hills Assisted Living in Spearfish, SD.

Born on her grandmother’s homestead on October 24,1923 to Carl (Jack) and Alice (Olive) White Johanson, Anna was the 3rd of 5 children.  She was raised north of Custer, Montana on her parents’ homestead.  After graduating from Custer High School, she attended one year of college in Billings.  She then taught in a one room schoolhouse in Lindsay, MT where she met her future husband, Lloyd Lehman.  Anna married Lloyd in Sidney, MT, on October 16, 1943.  They spent their life farming and ranching between Custer and Hardin, MT, and raising their four children. In retirement, they spent winters in Arizona before moving to Newell, SD in 1999.

Anna is survived by her son Ray (Renee) and daughter-in-law Margy Lehman, all of Hardin, MT; daughters Kathy Laufenberg (Bill), Whitewood, SD, and Joyce Crull, Jacksonville, NC; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.

Her husband Lloyd, her son Don, grandson David, son-in-law Denny Crull, her two sisters, Ruth and Elen and her two brothers, Paul and Frank, preceded her in death.

Anna was a faithful member of Newell Christian Fellowship Church, a gracious hostess, a matriarch.  A fierce competitor, she loved games – cards, horseshoes, and especially shuffleboard.

Anna will be remembered for her joyous smile, her love of family, life…and cookies.

A public service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 25, 2025, at the First Congregational Church in Hardin.
