Deadwood City Commissioner Seeks Temporary Restraining Order in Recall Dispute

DEADWOOD, S.D. — An embattled Deadwood City Commissioner facing a recall election is challenging the petitions turned in to set up that election. Deadwood City Commissioner Blake Joseph faces the recall after enough petition signatures were verified by the Deadwood City Finance Office. Joseph has filed for a temporary restraining order to keep the election from happening until he has a chance to challenge those petitions. His court filings claim, in part, that he was denied access to the petitions and that allegations against him are unsubstantiated and unproven. A hearing is scheduled in Fourth Circuit Court in Deadwood on December 11th to consider Joseph’s request for the restraining order.

Four Arrested Following Sturgis-to-Spearfish Pursuit Involving Kidnapping and Sexual Assault Investigation

STURGIS, S.D. — Four people have been detained following a pursuit that began in Sturgis and ended in Spearfish early Tuesday afternoon. Sturgis Police Chief Geody Vandewater says it began as officers were investigating a reported kidnapping and sexual assault of a juvenile female when they noticed the suspect leaving a residence with a car load of people. Authorities began pursuing the subject, as the vehicle went through Sturgis and up Boulder Canyon to the Lead-Deadwood area, before advancing down Spearfish Canyon. Authorities were able to use spike strips to disable the vehicle at the mouth of Spearfish Canyon where four people were apprehended. The driver, identified as Michael Wilson of Sturgis, was arrested for multiple felony offenses, including Rape, Aggravated Kidnapping, and various drug and pursuit-related charges. Vandewater says the pursuit led to the temporary secure status at Sturgis Elementary and Sturgis Williams Middle School and the pursuit through the canyon led to a minor collision between another vehicle and a law enforcement vehicle.

Trump Open to Renegotiating or Revising U.S.-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement

WASHINGTON (AP) —President Donald Trump said Tuesday he is open to renegotiating or pursuing separate trade deals with Canada and Mexico as he met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House. The discussion came ahead of next year’s review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, which allows most Canadian and Mexican goods to enter the U.S. tariff-free. Trump said he was willing to consider “different deals” if they improved America’s position, while Carney emphasized cooperation and shared interests. The leaders also discussed sector-specific tariffs, including U.S. steel and aluminum duties under Section 232. Canada remains one of the United States’ largest trading partners, with about $2.5 billion in goods and services crossing the border daily. Following the meeting, Canadian trade minister Dominic LeBlanc described the talks as positive and said discussions on trade issues would continue.

Truck Driver Sues Mark Sanchez and Fox Corporation Over Indianapolis Altercation

An Indiana truck driver has filed a lawsuit against former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez and his employer, Fox Corporation, following a weekend altercation outside a downtown Indianapolis hotel. The complaint, filed Monday in state court by 69-year-old Perry Tole, seeks unspecified damages and alleges Sanchez initiated a fight that caused Tole serious injuries. Police said Tole stabbed Sanchez several times during the confrontation, which prosecutors described as a dispute over parking. Sanchez, 38, faces one felony battery charge and several misdemeanors. According to a police affidavit, Sanchez smelled of alcohol and entered Tole’s truck without permission before being pepper-sprayed and then stabbed. Sanchez was hospitalized with torso wounds. Fox Sports declined to comment on the lawsuit, and both parties’ attorneys did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Sanchez was in Indianapolis for Fox’s coverage of Sunday’s game between the Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.2%, and the Nasdaq composite gave up 0.7%. Drops for Tesla and Oracle helped weigh on the market as stocks took a pause following a nearly relentless rise since April. They offset gains for several stocks benefiting from the continued boom in artificial-intelligence technology. Gold climbed and topped $4,000 per ounce to continue its stellar year amid worries about politics and the potential for high inflation in the future.

CAIRO (AP) — Peace talks between Israel and Hamas have resumed in Egypt. The second day of indirect talks on Tuesday is taking place on the two-year anniversary of Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel that triggered the war. The talks focus on a plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the fighting. Hamas is demanding guarantees that Israel will not resume the war after the remaining hostages are released. The plan envisions Israel withdrawing its troops and an international security force taking over. Israel has demanded that Hamas disarm, a condition the militants have yet to accept.
