RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Council has set the date for a special election to vote on the proposed TIF district that will fund a proposed amusement park.
The Libertyland TIF will head to Rapid City voters on January 20.
This comes after thousands of people signed a petition to put the issue up to a vote.

Councilor Kevin Maher lobbied for a January election instead of a June election, arguing the knowledge of Libertyland’s status will aid Elevate Rapid City in attracting businesses to set up in the Downtown Innovation District.
Libertyland Project Manager Joel Brannan says he will spend the time leading up to the election to clear up misconceptions and inform Rapid Citians about his plans for the project.
