UPDATE: Pennington County Vehicle Accident Leads To Five Deaths

PENNINGTON COUNTY, SD — According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, five passengers are confirmed deceased following an accident on Highway 44, near the mile 90 marker.

The fatal incident occurred near 11:59pm on Wednesday night, following the 2004 Honda Pilots’ reported failure to negotiate while taking a curve while traveling eastbound on the highway. Preliminary reports indicate that “The vehicle entered the north ditch and struck a concrete barrier. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames”. The four passengers reportedly died on scene according to first responders.

South Dakota Highway patrol is currently investigating the incident, and DPS reports that more information will be released as it becomes available.


UPDATE: Following a release by the Department of Public safety, the names of those associated with this accident have been made public knowledge. Our hearts are with the families and victims of this fatal accident.

Driver: Chad Lee Doyle, Jr., 24-year-old male from Wanblee, SD, fatal injuries
Passenger 1: Byron Joey Bear Killer, 23-year-old male from Allen, SD, fatal injuries
Passenger 2: Twila Whitney Hard Heart, 21-year-old female from Rapid City, SD, fatal injuries
Passenger 3: Danielle Lee Long Soldier, 33-year-old female from Wanblee, SD, fatal injuries
Passenger 4: 10-year-old female, fatal injuries
