The Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department is bringing back its popular Pumpkin Plunge event, offering youth a chance to swim alongside floating pumpkins at the Roosevelt Swim Center.

The free event is open to children ages 5-13 and is scheduled for Saturday, October 25 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Registration for the limited-space event began today, September 25.

Participants will be able to select a pumpkin from the water for decorating. Decoration supplies will be provided by the city.

City Recreation Events Specialist Lindsey Myers noted that this is the event’s third year and that registration typically fills up quickly. “It’s a free event, space is limited and we are asking for registrations,” Myers said in a previous statement.

Safety guidelines require all participants to wear life jackets. Additionally, children under the age of six must have an adult in the water within arm’s reach at all times.

Those interested in participating can register online at https://rapidcity.activityreg.com. For additional information, contact Myers at 605-394-4175 or lindsey.myers@rcgov.org. The event is a popular seasonal offering in the Black Hills area of South Dakota.
