Rapid City Police Investigate Shots-Fired Incident on Signal Drive

RAPID CITY, SD — Rapid City Police are searching for those responsible in the latest shots-fired incident that took place Wednesday night in the 100 block of Signal Drive. Police say they were dispatched to the area around 10:20 p.m. where they made contact with several witnesses that had received damage from the gunshots. Police did locate a single bullet hole to a window of each residence. No injuries were reported, and the case has been forwarded to the R.C.P.D.’s Criminal Investigations Division.


Rapid City man arrested on DUI, resisting arrest after I-90 crash

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City man was arrested Monday evening on multiple charges after a hit-and-run crash near Interstate 90. Police said officers responded around 6:45 p.m. Sept. 23 to a vehicle that had left the roadway at the eastbound on-ramp of North Lacrosse Street. A bystander identified the driver as 40-year-old Joshua Holmes, who was found walking nearby and showed signs of alcohol impairment while carrying an open container. Holmes resisted arrest before complying when an officer displayed a Taser, authorities said. He was booked into the Pennington County Jail on charges including DUI (second offense), leaving the scene, resisting arrest, driving without a license, open container and no proof of insurance.


Western Dakota Technical College Reports Record Enrollment and 100% Graduate Placement

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Western Dakota Technical College (WDTC) is celebrating significant growth in student enrollment and outstanding graduate success outcomes. This fall, WDTC’s total headcount reached 1,296 students—an 8.1% increase over Fall 2024. The number of degree-seeking students rose by 9.3%, while dual enrollment with high school students also climbed by 4.1%, totaling 411 students. The good news continues with WDTC’s 2024 graduate placement results. The college reports a 100% overall placement rate, meaning all graduates are either employed, continuing their education, or are enlisted in the military.


Rapid City Pools See Record Attendance During Hot Summer

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Data released from the Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department this week reflects the public flocked in record numbers to the City’s pools this summer, seeking relief from consistently hot temperatures. A total of 88,270 admissions were recorded at the Sioux Park, Parkview, Horace Mann and Roosevelt Park Swim Center pools during the summer period when pools were open to the public. The total is considerably higher than the 81,025 admissions recorded last summer and more than 15,000 admissions more than the 73,097 admissions recorded during the 2023 summer season when chilly temperatures and rain impacted attendance.


Rapid City Man Found Guilty of Attempting to Entice a Minor

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A Rapid City man has been found guilty of attempting to entice a minor following a two-day jury trial in federal court. In a news release by the U.S. Department of Justice, Brandon Bishop, 38, has been charged with a mandatory minimum of 10 years up to life in custody and/or a $250,000 fine. The verdict was returned Tuesday. According to court documents, Bishop was arrested and indicted in August 2024 following the annual undercover operation targeting online predators during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.


Ex-FBI Director, Comey indicted on charges of lying to Congress, obstruction

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted on Thursday in the Eastern District of Virginia, facing two charges: making false statements and obstructing a congressional proceeding. Prosecutors say the case is tied to his testimony before Congress on Sept. 30, 2020, and that the indictment was filed just before the five-year statute of limitations would have expired. Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel announced the charges. Comey served as FBI director from 2013 to 2017 and was dismissed by President Trump.


Trump signs executive order supporting proposed deal to put TikTok under US ownership

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has signed an executive order declaring that a proposed deal allowing TikTok to continue operating in the United States will be a qualified sale that meets national security concerns laid out by the law. Much is still unknown about the actual arrangement, but Trump said Chinese leader Xi Jinping “gave us the go-ahead” to proceed with the deal. Any major change to the popular video platform could have a huge impact on how Americans, particularly young adults and teenagers consume information online.


Remains found in Washington state are of Travis Decker, wanted in daughters’ killings, officials say

WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — Authorities in Washington state say forensic tests confirm that the remains of a former soldier wanted in the deaths of his three young daughters have been found. They say the remains of Travis Decker were located in a remote wooded area of central Washington. Law enforcement teams have been looking for Decker for more than three months since his daughters were found dead in June along with his truck at a campground. Decker had failed to return the girls to their mother following a scheduled visit. The search for Decker covered a vast area of rugged and remote terrain in Washington.
