HOT SPRINGS, S.D. – A 62-year-old man from Hot Springs was killed and a 43-year-old female passenger was seriously injured when their motorcycle struck a deer on U.S. Highway 18 Friday night, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at 7:04 p.m., about four miles east of Hot Springs near mile marker 44. The 2007 Harley Davidson Night Train was traveling west when a deer ran into the roadway. The motorcycle hit the deer, causing it to tip over and ejecting both riders. Neither was wearing a helmet.
The driver was transported to a Rapid City hospital where he died from his injuries. The passenger was taken to Fall River Health Services with non-life-threatening injuries. The names of the two individuals have not been released. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash
