RAPID CITY, SD — A structure fire erupted during the later morning hours today as a shed located in the back yard of the residence at 1211 Nowlin St, and though damage was observed on neighboring structures, no injuries occurred as a result of the incident.
“In this case, some of the units were out training at this time, so we had a little bit of what I would consider a delayed response, but didn’t really affect it too much,” said Trapper Lappe, Acting Battalion Chief at the site of the fire. Lappe reported that at this time investigations were yet to be completed, but that hoarding conditions existed within the structure that within a larger structure would have made response difficult, saying “it definitely limits access for our response to get in there and effectively fight the fire conditions. It’s going to affect your response and getting out of the structure if it catches on fire, definitely something to be aware of and stay organized and clean”.
Representatives went on to state that while the shed itself was nearly completely destroyed, surrounding structures also received damage, though this was largely surface damage and did not extend to the interior of the home or surrounding shed.
