PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Gov. Larry Rhoden has appointed John Shubeck to the South Dakota House of Representatives, representing District 16. The appointment fills the vacancy left by the late Rep. Richard Vasgaard.
In a press release, Gov. Rhoden praised Shubeck’s background in service and agriculture. Shubeck served 20 years in the United States Marine Corps, earning multiple awards, including the Bronze Star. He is also a farmer in Turner County.
Shubeck’s community involvement includes planting a church in Centerville and coaching the Centerville Middle and High School track team. He lives in Beresford with his wife and four children. The new representative stated he is “humbled to follow in the footsteps of Representative Richard Vasgaard.”
The appointment is effective immediately. Shubeck will serve the remainder of Vasgaard’s term. The legislative district includes parts of Lincoln and Union counties in eastern South Dakota.
