Reinert Earns Second Consecutive Barrel Racing Title at Mid-Plains Community College Stampede

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – Highlighting the second weekend of action in the 2025 fall schedule, the Black Hills State University women’s rodeo team saw Jayda Reinert earn her second consecutive barrel racing title to begin the year. Reinert’s title in the first rodeo at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede helped the Yellow Jackets to a second place team finish as they totaled 271 points. Later in the weekend the Black Hills State cowgirls finished sixth with 145 points in the second rodeo at the Wild West Arena. On the men’s side, BHSU was unable to tally any points in the first rodeo, but a third place finish by Mickey Strawn in tie down roping led the team to a tie for seventh place and helped towards 90 team points in the second rodeo.

  • Black Hills State was unable to score any points in the men’s team competition in the first rodeo of the weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN’S RODEO #2

  • Markus Ailie earned his second top-10 of the season in steer wrestling, notching eighth place and ten points towards his season total. On the long go he posted a time of 6.7 seconds; however, he was unable to record a time in the short go.
  • In tie down roping, Mickey Strawn came away with a third place finish, gaining 80 points in the rodeo as he notched a total time of 22.1 seconds. In the long go he recorded a time of 12.0 seconds and then he proceeded to improve his time to 10.1 seconds in the short go.
  • Strawn and Luke Mavity paired up for the team roping event, posting a time of 14.7 seconds on the long go, but were unable to clock a time in the short go. They finished 11th overall in the event.

HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN’S RODEO #1

  • Haley Husted secured her first top-3 finish of the season in goat tying to begin the weekend, posting a second place time of 7.4 seconds for 126 points. Also earning points in the event during the first rodeo of the weekend was Kate Weborg, who was sixth with a time of 8.1 seconds for 50 points.
  • Emma Ohm and Hannah Heezen earned top-10 finishes in breakaway roping, notching a sixth place finish and a tie for seventh place. The regions defending champion in the event, Ohm clocked a time of 3.1 seconds for 50 points, while Heezen was just one tenth of a second behind her with a 3.2 second go around for 11.25 points.
  • Winning her second consecutive rodeo barrel racing title and collecting 145 points was Jayda Reinert, clocking a time of 18.05 seconds, which was nearly two tenths of a second faster than second place. Also finishing with their first top-5 finishes of the year in the event was Sierra Steele, who was fourth with a time of 18.32 seconds for 88 points, and Adeline Norstegaard, who was fifth with a time of 18.33 seconds for 69 points. Rounding out a quartet of Yellow Jackets in the top-10 for the event was Kiera Mavity who posted an 18.50 second run for ninth place.

HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN’S RODEO #2

  • The pair of Raylee Fagerhaug and Mavity collected a fifth place and seventh place finish in goat tying respectively. Fagerhaug secured her first top-5 finish of the season and earned 65 points in the event with a time of 15.5 seconds on two go arounds, clocking a 7.5 second run on the long go and an 8.0 second run on the short go. Mavity earned her first top-10 of the year in the event by tallying an overall time of 16.0 seconds, recording a long go run of 7.9 seconds and a short go run of 8.1 seconds.
  • A pair of 2025 national qualifiers led the way for the Yellow Jackets in breakaway roping, as Hattie Kauffman earned a fourth place finish and Ohm earned a sixth place finish. Kauffman earned 62 points with a total time of 6.8 seconds, posting times of 3.0 seconds on the long go and 3.8 seconds on the short go. Ohm earned 70 points with a total time of 8.0 seconds, notching a run of 2.7 seconds on the long go and 5.3 seconds on the short go. Joining the duo was Paige Delaney who earned an eighth place finish and 25 points, clocking a time of 2.9 seconds on the long go, but was unable to record a time on the short go.
  • Pairing up with Lathan Demontigny of North Dakota State, Ohm earned 60 points with an eighth place finish in team roping. The duo clocked a time of 8.6 seconds in the long go but was unable to record a time in the short go.
  • Steele earned her second top-5 finish of the weekend with a second place finish in barrel racing, posting a total time of 36.28 seconds for 145 points. She recorded a time of 18.13 seconds on the long go and 18.15 seconds on the short go, both of which were the second-fastest in each round. Also, in the top-10 of the event was Kamry Davis and Reinert who were eighth and ninth place respectively. Davis posted an overall time of 36.97 seconds with a long go run of 18.33 seconds and a short go run of 18.64 seconds, while Reinert notched an overall time of 37.12 seconds with a long go time of 18.40 seconds and a short go time of 18.72 seconds.
  • Ohm ended the weekend with a second place finish in the women’s all-around of the second rodeo, earning 130 total points with 70 by way of the breakaway roping and 60 from team roping.
