STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis City Administrator Aaron Jordan says sales in the month of August were up over last year.
He says they were 10.81-percent higher than August of 2024, coming in at $380,454. Sales for the first eight months of 2025 are 4.39-percent higher than in the same period in 2024, although they are 8.74-percent lower than in 2023.
August sales taxes in 2023 were $387,828.
Jordan says if collections from September through December reach 70% of the December-September 2024 totals, the city will surpass the budgeted projection. Given the current year-to-date performance and economic trends, there is high confidence that sales tax collected for the remaining months of 2025 will exceed this threshold.
As for the Triple B, Jordan says these related sales were 11.09-percent higher than August 2024, coming in at $75,615. That compares to $68,064 in 2024. Sales for the first eight months of the year are 3.38-percent lower than in 2024 and 28-percent lower than in 2023. The Triple B in August of 2023 totaled $125,082.
Jordan says to date, the Triple B is lower than in 2025 than any other year since 2020.
