RAPID CITY, S.D.- Sanford Health has been named one of America’s Best In-State Employers for 2025 by Forbes, receiving recognition in South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. The health system was honored for its supportive work culture.

“Our Sanford family has grown in the last year as we have expanded our mission to care, comfort and cure in more communities throughout the upper Midwest. Every day, I am filled with immense gratitude for our remarkable teams who provide world-class care and service to our patients, residents and health plan members,” said Bill Gassen, president and CEO of Sanford Health. “To be recognized once again as one of the best employers across the region speaks to the healthy work culture we have created that is shared and embraced throughout our organization.”

The list, now in its seventh year, was compiled based on a survey of over 160,000 employees from companies with at least 500 workers across the United States. Sanford Health, which has 53,000 team members, was evaluated on criteria including wage parity, work culture, professional advancement opportunities, and how the company handles serious issues.

In South Dakota, Sanford Health was ranked No. 3 on the list, following Avera Health at No. 1 and Amazon at No. 2.

Sanford Health operates as the largest rural health system in the United States. The organization includes 56 hospitals, 288 clinic locations, and 147 senior care communities, serving more than 2 million patients.
