
STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper boys soccer team picked up their third win of the season Thursday night as they shut out Rapid City Central 5-0.
The Scoopers scored first as Jaxon Dodson scored on a throw-in by Brody Foster at the 35:55 mark in the first half.
Sturgis would add a second goal as Evan Roterdam found the back of the net at the 23:03 mark.
Sturgis would take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, freshman Casey Cammack found the back of the net for the Scoopers on a pass from Dodson with 26L16 to play. Cammack’s goal made it 3-0 Scoopers.
Sturgis added their fourth goal of the game at the 24:25 as Roterdam hit his second score of the game to make it 4-0. Sturgis would add an insurance goal late in the contest on a penalty kick by Dodson.
Sturgis improves to 3-2-1 on the season. Rapid City Central is 0-5-2.
In the girls game, Rapid City Central had a strong second half as they beat Sturgis 8-3.
Iris Zylstra got Sturgis on the board first, as she sent a ball past Central goalie Joanna Williams at the 29:09 mark to take a 1-0 lead.
Central, however, would waste no time in answering as Rylee Healey found the back of the net just :36 seconds later to tie it up at 1-1.Sturgis would go ahead 2-1 with 20:20 left in the half on a long goal by Belle Tobias.
But, Central would tie it up again on a goal by Aubrey Mailloux at the 12:00 minute mark. Just before half, Mailloux would find the back of the net again for Central for a 3-2 lead.
Starting the second half, Mailloux added her third goal of the night as she trickled one in in the second minute. The goal gave Central a 4-2 lead.
Central took a 5-2 lead with 27:12 left when Kiley Mellum shot a goal into the top corner of the goal over Scooper goalie Ariana Burke. Less than three minutes later, Central took a commanding 6-2 lead as Trinity Larson bounced the ball off the top of the goal box and had it roll in past Burke.
Melllum then added goal number 7 for the Cobblers on a breakaway with 22:58 left.
Cori Cammack added a goal late for Sturgis on a breakaway that made the score 7-3.
Central put an exclamation point on the game as Bailey Merchant made it 8-3 on a long goal as time expired.
