STURGIS, S.D. – The city of Sturgis will be taking a closer look at an ordinance that regulates camping during the rally after a complaint was received this year.

Daniel Granillo and his wife Christina operate Buddy’s Campsite at their residence at 1316 Spruce. Just before the 2025 rally, they were approached by code enforcement who received a complaint about their campsite. It was determined at that time the ordinance allowed it. But after the rally they were told it was not allowed.

The Granillo’s say they did some research and found contradicting language in the city’s ordinance.

Sturgis City Administrator Aaron Jordan agrees.

Jordan says the current ordinance has some confusing language

Jordan says he’s not sure why a camping permit process was not established, but the council voted this week their ordinance committee take a look at the ordinance and report back to the council October 20.
