
STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis City Council got together for their first meeting of September Tuesday night.
On the agenda, 2026 budget hearings began with several departments coming before council.
Council members heard from Airport, Engineering, Street Lighting, Dispatch, Insurance and Perpetual Maintenance.
According to documents included in the council’s packet, the Airport has a 2026 budget of $376,257. That does include work on the taxiway at the airport, which is a $170,000 project.
Engineering has a $64,575 dollar budget for 2026 and the street lighting budget for next year comes in at $175,000.
The Insurance budget for 2026 is $395,227 dollars.
The Airport budget is up over $101,000 from last year while engineering remained the same. Street lighting is up about $2,000 and Insurance saw a $12,400 dollar increase.
The council will continue with their 2026 budget hearings at a special meeting set for September 8th.
The council also approved a handful of airport hanger site leases Tuesday night. One was for 4 Door LLC and Sturgis Flight Center LLC at 1 Jet Way and another was for Shaun Brautigan at 202 Cessna Way.
