Rapid City police report 12 DUI arrests over holiday weekend
RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Police say they made a dozen DUI arrests over the Labor Day holiday weekend. Two of those arrests involved crashes, including one where an intoxicated man struck the median on Elk Vale Road and another where a woman crashed into a guardrail on Skyline Drive.
Authorities said the holiday weekend was part of the larger “Drive Sober, Get Pulled Over” mobilization with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That campaign, which ran from Aug. 15 through Sept. 1, led to 31 total DUI arrests in the city.
Rapid City launches website for $207 million water project
RAPID CITY, S.D. – City officials are encouraging the public to visit a new website providing updates on Rapid City’s largest infrastructure project, the Water Reclamation Facility upgrade.
The $207.3 million project is currently underway, with estimated completion in the winter of 2028. The website features a guided tour of the facility, details on project costs, construction progress videos, a project timeline, and regular updates.
Man arrested after foot chase, Taser incident in Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Tucson, Arizona, man is facing multiple charges after Rapid City Police say he fled a traffic stop and was subdued with a Taser early Tuesday morning.
Police said 37-year-old John Parrado gave officers a false name during a stop for a license plate violation. When officers attempted to handcuff him, he ran. Parrado was taken into custody on charges including resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance.
The driver of the pickup, 31-year-old Lynnzi Yelloweagle of Rapid City, was also arrested on charges including driving without a valid license, no proof of insurance, and a probation hold.
Rapid City seeks public input on comprehensive plan
RAPID CITY, S.D. – Residents are invited to weigh in on the city’s draft policies for the 2025 Rapid City Comprehensive Plan.
An open house is scheduled Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Dahl Arts Center, 713 Seventh Street. City officials said community members unable to attend can provide feedback through an online survey, which will remain open until next Tuesday.
House Oversight Committee posts Epstein case files
WASHINGTON – The House Oversight Committee has released files it received from the Justice Department related to the sex trafficking investigations into Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
The materials include hundreds of image files of years-old court filings, body camera footage from police searches, and law enforcement interview summaries with victims. Lawmakers and advocates continue to push for more disclosure, but most of the information was already public.
Judge orders changes to Google search practices
WASHINGTON – A federal judge has ordered changes to Google’s search engine, saying the company abused monopoly power.
The 226-page ruling by U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta rejected the government’s request to break up Google but said reforms are needed. The decision is expected to have wide impact across the tech industry, particularly as artificial intelligence companies develop conversational “answer engines” designed to challenge Google’s dominance.
Trump announces U.S. Space Command move to Alabama
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump says U.S. Space Command will relocate from Colorado to Alabama, reversing a Biden administration decision to keep it at its temporary headquarters.
Space Command conducts operations such as satellite navigation, troop communication, and missile warning systems. Both Alabama and Colorado officials have long lobbied for the command, citing the economic and political benefits of hosting the base.
Trump says U.S. military strike targeted Venezuelan drug vessel
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump says U.S. forces struck a drug-carrying vessel in the southern Caribbean operated by the Tren de Aragua gang.
Trump said 11 people were killed in the operation, which he called a rare U.S. military action in the Americas. He said the vessel, which departed Venezuela, was transporting narcotics toward the United States.
The president posted a short video clip online that appeared to show the vessel engulfed in flames after the strike.
