Sheri left us on August 24, 2025.
Sheri was born on January 3rd, 1946 in Harrisburg, Ill. Prior to moving to South Dakota, she lived in California, Michigan, Wyoming, and North Dakota. She moved to Boulder Canyon in 1987 and then to Sturgis in 1993. In 2017 she moved to Spearfish.
Sheri lived life by her own rules. Two of those rules were “make people happy and make animals happy because they deserve it”. She was a feisty, sassy fiery red head always quick with a comeback and always there with compassion and a huge heart. She loved nature and all animals. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds outside her windows, gardening, cooking, baking and fishing at Iron Creek Lake with a cold beer.
She worked several jobs throughout her life (many people knew her as the friendly redhead at Robbs in Sturgis). She found her calling later in life lovingly caring for hospice Veterans as a CNA at Fort Meade VA.
Most of all, Sheri loved all her children, her seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She had very close relationship with her Grandson Drake who lovingly called her G-ma. Sheri is survived by her son Tom of Fargo, ND daughters Tonia Homan and husband Paul of Spearfish, Amy of Rapid City and Sarah Torres and husband Ivan of Austin, TX, and her favorite son (because he always made her laugh) Dave Thornton and wife Janelle of Sturgis, and her cat, Charlie. She was preceded in death by her beloved dog Raimy.
She will be missed and using her own words, “I love everybody. Always will”.
There will be a celebration of life determined at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to the Western Humane Society, of Spearfish SD.
