RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Sioux City, Iowa, man has been sentenced to life in prison for a 2023 murder in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota. The sentence was announced by South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley.

Alfredo Castellanos-Rosales, 41, received the mandatory life sentence Monday after a Union County jury found him guilty of first-degree murder on June 25, 2025. The case is a reminder of the serious crimes that can occur in the Black Hills and across South Dakota.

The victim, 23-year-old Jordan “Jordy” Beardshear, was found deceased in an apartment on April 25, 2023. Castellanos-Rosales was later arrested in Mexico.

“This life sentence delivers justice for a senseless and brutal murder that robbed Jordan’s family of their loved one,” said Attorney General Jackley. “I am grateful to the prosecutors and law enforcement officers whose tireless work made this verdict and outcome possible.”

The investigation involved the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the Union County Sheriff’s Office, and other law enforcement agencies. The case was prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
