RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City man received the maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for sexual contact, a class 4 felony. Hunter Plumman, 35, of Rapid City, pled guilty to the charge in April. He was originally charged with fourth-degree rape, but the charge was reduced as part of a plea agreement to spare the victim from testifying in court.

Deputy State’s Attorney Braedon Houdek, who prosecuted the case, stated that the plea agreement did not diminish the severity of Plumman’s actions. Plumman was caught sexually assaulting a woman who could not consent.

During the sentencing, Seventh Circuit Judge Eric Kelderman noted that a pre-sentence investigation showed no signs of remorse from Plumman. Judge Kelderman called Plumman a danger to the community and imposed the 10-year prison sentence.

The Pennington County State’s Attorney’s Office, under the direction of State’s Attorney Lara Roetzel, handled the prosecution. The office is responsible for prosecuting about 8,000 cases each year for the residents of Pennington County, South Dakota.
