Explore Creativity With These Fall Education Classes at the Community Art Center

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Arts Council (RCAC) has announced its fall semester of arts education classes and events at the Dahl Arts Center, featuring new classes for all ages and skill levels.

The new offerings include a beginner crochet class and an Afterschool Art Club for middle school students. The center is also introducing a new pottery class, Handbuilding for All, designed to accommodate people with differing abilities.

Adult and Teen Programs

The RCAC offers classes for ages 14 and up. This semester’s new and returning classes include:

  • Pottery: In preparation for the Teapot Competition on Nov. 6, classes will be offered in Teapot Handbuilding and Teapot Wheel Throwing.
  • Drawing: Introduction to Drawing with Anastasia is a four-session class beginning Sept. 2. A drop-in Live Model Drawing Class will also be offered on Sundays, starting Oct. 12.
  • Painting: Due to its popularity this summer, the Intro to Watercolor class returns on Oct. 7.
  • Fiber Arts: The new Intro to Crochet class starts on Oct. 8 and will teach foundational skills like slip knots and basic stitches.
  • Teen Art Studio: This program for students in grades 6-12 helps young artists explore their creativity and build a portfolio. An open house for interested students and families will be held on Aug. 22.

Youth Programs

The Dahl Arts Center also offers classes for children in grades K-12.

  • Afterschool Art Club: This new program will focus on character design in September and storytelling through art in October. The club has different meeting days for various age groups, including a new group for grades 6-8.
  • Middle School Mural Masters: This six-session class introduces students to the history of public art and culminates in a final exhibition of their work.
  • Afterschool Clay Club: A pottery class for grades 3-5, where students learn hand-forming techniques using slabs and coils.
