RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Council voted unanimously at their meeting Monday night to pass first reading of an ordinance that would ban the sale of Tianeptine, an unregulated drug linked to addiction, severe withdrawal and overdose deaths.
Tianeptine is often sold at gas stations, vape shops and convenience stores and considered by some as ‘gas station heroin.’
Despite the proposed sale ban on the drug, possession and consumption of the drug would remain legal for now.
Second reading of the ordinance is expected to take place at the September meeting.
