RAPID CITY, S.D. — The city has launched a new website to provide the public with updates on its largest infrastructure project, the Water Reclamation Facility upgrade.
The website, located at wrf.rcgov.org, features a guided tour of the facility, details on project costs, construction progress videos, a timeline, and regular project updates.
The $207.3 million project is fully funded through a State Revolving Fund (SRF) loan, the City’s enterprise fund, and $52.8 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant funding. The upgrade is expected to be completed in the winter of 2028.
The project’s goals are to update the facility’s equipment and infrastructure to meet future wastewater treatment needs for the next 20-plus years and to comply with regulatory requirements. Officials say the project will also protect Rapid Creek by implementing reliable and efficient water treatment processes that safeguard downstream habitats.
The original water reclamation facility began operations in 1967 and has undergone various updates over the decades. The new website also allows visitors to submit questions or comments to city officials.
