Nira Irene Nichols, 91, of Spearfish, SD, formerly of Lead, SD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at her home in Spearfish surrounded by her family. Â A graveside service will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Mountain Lawn Cemetery near Lead.
Nira Irene Nichols was born on April 2, 1934, in Elm Springs, SD, a daughter of Richard and Pearl (Hall) Napton. Â She later moved with her family to the Black Hills area of South Dakota; living in the Rapid City and Sturgis area. Â Nira married Robert Michael, and the two made their home in Lead where they raised their family. Â Nira later married William L. Nichols. Â She eventually moved to Spearfish where she lived until her passing.
Those left to mourn her passing are her three daughters, Pam Lewis, Roberta “Bobbie” Williams and Stella Anderson; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Nira was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Pearl Napton; her husband, William “Sonny” Nichols; three daughters, Cheryl Michael, Helen Millar and Patty Flynn; son, Richard Michael; great-grandson, Josha Reed and a great-granddaughter, Addison Williams.
