South Dakota Highway Patrol Reports Final Rally Stats with Decrease in Arrests
STURGIS, S.D. —The South Dakota Highway Patrol released their final rally stat report Sunday. The report included three injury crashes that occurred on Highway 14A and Highway 16. None of the crashes involved serious injuries. The patrol ended the year with 66 injury accidents and 27 non-injury accidents. There were four fatalities included in the report. D.U.I. arrests totaled 119, down from last year’s 155. Misdemeanor drug arrests totaled 266, and felony drug arrests were 104 — both also down from the previous year.
Sturgis Police Report Decrease in D.U.I. and Drug Arrests, Increase in Disorderly Conduct
STURGIS, S.D. —Meanwhile, Sturgis Police also issued their final report Sunday. It showed the number of D.U.I. arrests at 58, down from last year’s 66. There were 55 misdemeanor drug arrests and 47 felony drug arrests. D.U.I. and misdemeanor drug arrests were down over last year, while felony drug arrests were up slightly. Police saw an increase in disorderly conduct arrests, which totaled 22 this year, while assaults totaled 18 — right in line with the previous year. Sturgis Police doled out 146 illegal parking citations this year, down from last year’s 167. Police say speeding citations were also down this year, while stop sign violations were the same as last year. In all, Sturgis Police made 97 non-traffic arrests and 114 traffic-related arrests. Both numbers are down from last year. Police report they booked 142 people into the Meade County Jail.
Four Arrested in Sturgis for Attempted Child Exploitation During Rally
PIERRE, S.D. — Authorities say four men were arrested this past week after a joint sex-trafficking and child exploitation operation conducted during the 2025 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The operation resulted in federal charges against four men who were arrested while attempting to meet with a person they believed to be a 14-year-old girl for the purposes of engaging in sexual activity. They were identified as 36-year-old Elmer Hopper of Rapid City, 23-year-old Beau Remington of Black Hawk, 30-year-old Jason Gomez of Rapid City, and 36-year-old Joshua Michael Allen of Hermosa. All four have been charged with Attempted Enticement of a Minor using the Internet.
Rapid City Announces Traffic Changes for Water Line Repair on Fifth Street
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Effective Wednesday, the City of Rapid City’s Utility Maintenance Division will be conducting repairs to a water line in the southbound lanes of Fifth Street near Cathedral Drive. The excavation area is located approximately 400 feet south of the intersection. To accommodate the repair work, traffic will be reduced to one southbound lane and one northbound lane. Due to the high volume of commuter and hospital-related traffic in the area, motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes to minimize delays.
Tourist from US mainland who flew to Puerto Rico for Bad Bunny concert was fatally shot, police say
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — A tourist from the U.S. mainland who was visiting Puerto Rico for Bad Bunny’s residency has been fatally shot at La Perla, a popular seaside shantytown. Police identified the victim as Kevin Mares, a 25-year-old who lived in New York. The shooting happened in the pre-dawn hours of Sunday. Police tell The Associated Press that the shooting happened when several people near Mares began arguing and one pulled out a gun and shot at least three people, including Mares. A brother and sister who live in La Perla were injured and remain hospitalized. Ruiz said Mares was an innocent bystander.
Ukrainian drone strike kills 1 in as fighting rages ahead of a planned Trump-Putin summit
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A Russian official says a Ukrainian drone attack has killed one person and wounded two more in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region. Gov. Gleb Nikitin said in an online statement Monday that drones targeted two “industrial zones” that caused unspecified damage along with the three casualties. Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defenses intercepted and destroyed a total of 39 Ukrainian drones overnight and Monday morning over several Russian regions as well as over the Crimean peninsula that Russia annexed in 2014. Fighting continued ahead of a planned summit meeting in which Russian President Vladimir Putin hopes to persuade his U.S. counterpart to back a peace deal locking in Moscow’s gains.
Netanyahu defends new military offensive in Gaza and says it will be wider than announced
JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has defended a new military offensive in Gaza that’s more sweeping than previously announced. He declared Sunday in the face of growing condemnation that Israel “has no choice but to finish the job and complete the defeat of Hamas.” Netanyahu said the security cabinet last week instructed the dismantling of Hamas strongholds not only in Gaza City but also in the “central camps” and Muwasi. The sprawling camps were not part of Israel’s announcement Friday. Netanyahu’s office says he has spoken with U.S. President Donald Trump about the plan and thanked him for his support.
‘Weapons’ horror film scores a box office victory
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Zach Cregger’s highly anticipated horror film, “Weapons,” and Disney’s sequel comedy, “Freakier Friday,” helped prove that horror and humor can thrive at the box office. “Weapons” opened with $42.5 million domestically to take the top spot, and the Disney follow to “Freaky Friday” earned $29 million. A Warner Bros. executive says “Weapons” was the studio’s seventh film this year to take the top spot, and the sixth film in a row to debut over $40 million. Paul Dergarabedian of the data firm Comscore says “the top two films could not be more different, and that’s what makes this weekend so appealing.”
