SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State Athletics and Head Coach Kelly Kruger announced the hiring of Adam Schorzmann to be the Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach. Schorzmann brings 11 years of coaching experience at the high school and college level to the bench at BHSU.
Schorzmann is heading to BHSU after spending last season at Wayne State College in Nebraska. WSC went 11-16 in his only season there and before that Schorzmann was coaching on the big stages at the high school level in South Dakota.
“Really excited to work with Adam,” Coach Kruger said. “Coach Schorzmann is a great person and recruiter and was very successful at Wayne State. He is going to be a huge help to the program and his family will be a welcome and wonderful addition to the community.”
Schorzmann made the jump to college after spending six seasons as the head coach at Tea Area High School in Tea, SD. He had an 89-49 record for the Titans and qualified them for one state tournament in 2024 where they fell in a close game to Vermillion. During his time as the Titans head coach, he coached three 1000-point scorers, 8 All-Conference players, one Dak XII Conference Player of the Year, and one South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year. Both of those are Katie Vasecka, who now plays for South Dakota State and is one of four players Schorzmann sent to play college basketball in his time at Tea Area.
“I’m excited and blessed to be a part of the Yellow Jacket family and Spearfish community,” Coach Schorzmann said. “BHSU and the athletic department have been incredibly welcoming and supportive. We have an amazing group of players to go along with some talented coaches that I believe will be successful on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. I appreciate the opportunity I have been given to join such a historically successful program. I can’t wait for the players to get on campus and for our season to get rolling!”
Schorzmann started his high school journey as a boys’ basketball assistant coach at Harrisburg High School which he was at from 2014-2018. In his final year there, he helped the Tigers finish runners-up in the SDHSAA State Tournament.
He spent his GA at Dakota Wesleyan where he learned under the fairly new head coach Jason Christensen for two seasons. During that time, DWU had a record of 38-24. He also served as a student assistant at South Dakota State during the 07-08 season.
Schorzmann got his bachelor’s degree in history at South Dakota State then went on to finish his master’s in educational policy and administration at DWU. He is joined in Spearfish by his wife, Ashley and his two kids, Della and Theo.
