**Free open swim Aug. 16 with donation to Cornerstone Mission
RAPID CITY, SD–With most local students set to return to school August 19, City officials have announced the final day of the summer season for the City’s three outdoor pools with two facilities hosting ‘Goodbye Summer, End of Summer Bash’ events that will include free admission with donations to a local charity.
• The Horace Mann and Parkview pools will close at the end of the day Saturday, August 16. The final day of operations for the summer at the Jimmy Hilton pool at Sioux Park is Saturday, August 30.
• Hours at the Jimmy Hilton Pool August 17-30 will be as follows: Sundays noon to 7 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays 3-7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays noon to 7 p.m. With school in session during this period, the Hilton pool is staying open an hour later, weather permitting.
• The 50-meter outdoor pool at Roosevelt Park Swim Center will remain open a few weeks longer this summer, operating through Saturday, September 20, weather permitting. Beginning August 18, the Swim Center’s 50-meter outdoor pool will be open Mondays-Saturdays from 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m. and Sundays from Noon to 5:30 p.m.
• Beginning August 17, the Roosevelt Park Swim Center’s indoor facility will be closed through Labor Day for annual maintenance.
• The annual Wags and Waves event in partnership with the Humane Society of the Black Hills will be held Sunday, August 31 from 1-4 p.m. at the Jimmy Hilton Pool at Sioux Park.
On Saturday, August 16, the Horace Mann and Parkview outdoor pools will host ‘Goodbye Summer! End of Summer Bash’ events, which will include free open swim with a donation of items to the Cornerstone Mission. An emphasis on donated items include food items such as Italian dressing, ranch dressing, cream of mushroom soup, salsa, barbecue sauce, gift cards to Walmart, men’s hats, men’s gloves and t-shirts.
“The End of Summer Bash events are a great way to end the summer season,” said City Recreation Specialist Teaghan Slagle. “It’s a final day to swim with friends at the Parkview and Horace Mann pools, while also helping the community.”
There is no End of Summer Bash event scheduled at the Jimmy Hilton Pool.
