Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Highway 16A During Sturgis Rally Weekend

STURGIS, S.D. — The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is in full swing, and the first weekend of the event saw a number of crashes and one fatality. The fatality occurred on Saturday when a motorcyclist laid down his bike on Highway 16A outside Mount Rushmore. Overall, there were over a dozen injury crashes through Saturday, however, drug and D.U.I. arrests remained down over last year. The patrol reported 21 D.U.I. arrests and 14 felony drug arrests. Update numbers through Sunday are expected today.


Motorcyclist Receives Life-Threatening Injuries After Fleeing Police in Sturgis

STURGIS, S.D. — Sturgis Police say a motorcyclist received life-threatening injuries in a crash after fleeing a traffic stop. Police attempted to pull the biker over early Sunday morning for exhibition driving, but he fled police, and a pursuit ensued. The motorcycle left the lane of travel at a high speed and entered the ditch at MM 52 on US 14A. The driver was transported by helicopter to Monument Health with serious life-threatening injuries. The driver was not wearing a helmet.


Rapid City Police Search for Suspect in Thursday Night Shooting

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Police say law enforcement were still searching for a man wanted in connection with a shooting Thursday night that seriously injured a man. The shooting reportedly occurred in the 700 block of Farlow Avenue. The suspect, 29-year-old Kenneth Norman of Sioux Falls, was on parole and wanted for a parole violation at the time of the shooting. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous and not be approached..


Summerset Police Arrest Dallas Man After Pursuit on Pleasant Valley Road

SUMMERSET, S.D. — Summerset Police arrested a Dallas, Texas man after a pursuit that ended on Pleasant Valley Road Friday morning. The man was found asleep in his car by a Summerset police officer, and after being woke up, he fled the scene. The individual fled westbound on I-90, initiating a pursuit. The pursuit ended approximately three miles east on Pleasant Valley Road. The driver, a 29-year-old male from Dallas, Texas, was taken into custody and was being charged with aggravated eluding, possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence, and several other related offenses.


Colby Raha Breaks Harley-Davidson V-Twin Jump Record at Sturgis Rally

STURGIS, S.D. – The 85th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally saw history made Saturday night at the Thunderdome, as freestyle motocross legend Colby Raha set a new world record for the longest jump on a Harley-Davidson V-Twin. Raha, a seven-time X Games gold medalist from Colton, California, came to Sturgis for the first time to honor his hero, Evel Knievel, by attempting a 200-foot jump. After a week of testing, he hit the 77 mph speed needed to make the leap. Following a near miss on his first attempt, Raha matched the 200-foot mark on his second try, broke the record on his third, and then smashed it on his fourth with a certified distance of 205 feet. The jump surpassed Doug Danger’s 2015 record set during the 75th Sturgis Rally. “We landed it perfectly,” Raha said. “That last one was a violent landing—I held on for dear life. I felt like Knievel on that one.” The crowd roared as Raha celebrated atop the landing ramp, marking a new milestone in motorcycle stunt history at the iconic rally.


Ukrainian drone attack sets Russian oil depot on fire as Zelenskyy announces prisoner exchange

Russian officials say a Ukrainian drone attack on an oil depot near Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi has sparked a major fire. More than 120 firefighters have been working to extinguish the blaze. Russia’s civil aviation authority temporarily stopped flights at Sochi’s airport. Meanwhile, in southern Ukraine, a Russian missile strike hit a residential area in Mykolaiv, wounding seven people. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine and Russia have agreed to exchange 1,200 prisoners following negotiations in Istanbul. There was no immediate comment from Russia.


Former US soldier suspected of killing 4 in Montana remains at large

Authorities say a former US soldier suspected of killing four people at a Montana bar is still at large and believed to be armed. The shooting occurred on Friday morning at The Owl Bar in Anaconda, Montana. Officials say they believe 45-year-old military veteran Michael Paul Brown committed the shooting with a rifle. Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen on Sunday warned residents that Brown could return to the area. Investigators are considering all possible options for Brown’s whereabouts. Brown served in the Army and Montana National Guard and has struggled with mental illness for years, family members say.


LOS ANGELES (AP) — Loni Anderson, who played a struggling radio station’s empowered receptionist Jennifer on the hit TV comedy “WKRP in Cincinnati,” has died. It was just days before her 80th birthday. Her longtime publicist says Anderson died at a Los Angeles hospital following a prolonged illness. “WKRP in Cincinnati” aired from 1978 through 1982 and was set in a lagging Ohio radio station trying to reinvent itself with rock music. As the station’s receptionist, Jennifer’s efficiency often kept the station running in the face of others’ incompetence.
