Black Hills State to Implement Paid Parking for Football

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University Athletic Department announced on Tuesday afternoon the implementation of a new parking plan, including paid parking, for all home football games beginning in the fall of 2025. The plan will be enforced starting with the season opener on Thursday, August 28, when the Yellow Jackets host the University of Sioux Falls.

All parking will be $10 and cash only, however, the newly paved Creek Side Lot will include 100 reserved parking spots for members of the Yellow Jacket Club while the remaining 200 spots are available on a first come first serve basis on gamedays. All 435 parking spots in the Donald E. Young Center Lot will also be available on a first come first serve basis. The lots will open to the public three hours prior to kickoff.

More information regarding becoming a Yellow Jacket Club member and receiving a reserved spot will be available in the near future.

GAMEDAY PARKING POLICIES & PROCEDURES

  • Tailgating is allowed in all game day fan parking lots
  • Propane grills and Tents/Canopies that are 10×10 or smaller are permitted
  • Overnight parking is prohibited in all lots
  • Drones are not permitted to fly on campus without University and FAA approval
  • Fans may not undertake any commercial, promotional, advertising or marketing activities on campus without written authorization from the Athletic Department.
  • Spaces may not be reserved for vehicles arriving later unless authorized by the Athletic Department.
  • Limit your tailgating to your ONE parking space – ONE parking space per pass will be strictly enforced.
  • DO NOT block the path for other vehicles to park or to access the lots and parking stalls.
  • No glass bottles, kegs or open fires are allowed in parking lots.
  • No professional sound equipment, DJ booth, etc., without prior written approval from BHSU Athletics. Small speakers are permitted.
  • All patrons who are under 21 years of age are strictly prohibited from using alcoholic beverages on university property. The use of alcohol on university property or property controlled by Black Hills State University is only allowed in accordance with federal, state and local laws and in accordance with Black Hills State University Policy. 
  • The use of alcohol in areas surrounding Lyle Hare Stadium is only permitted on official Black Hills State football game days; by all patrons who are 21 years of age; and in accordance with state and local law.  Alcohol use may be restricted at the discretion of Black Hills State leadership, the Department of Athletics, Campus Security, or local law enforcement.
