Black Hills, S.D. — The Black Hills Playhouse will be debuting the last play of Season 79, The Book of Will. This play runs from August 10 to August 16, featuring eight performances.

Based on a true story, The Book of Will follows a tale of what is possible. Without William Shakespeare, we wouldn’t have literary masterpieces like Romeo and Juliet. But without Henry Condell and John Heminges, we would have lost half of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays forever!

After the death of their friend and mentor, the two actors are determined to compile the First Folio and preserve the words that shaped their lives. They’ll just have to borrow, beg, and band together to get it done. Amidst the noise and color of Elizabethan London, The Book of Will reveals an unforgettable true story of love, loss, and laughter, shedding new light on a man you may think you know.

Featuring an all-star cast including Artistic Director Dan Workman as Henry Condell, Christopher Elst as John Heminges, and fan-favorite Jeff Kingsbury playing three roles as Richard Burbage / Ben Jonson/ and Horatio, this comedic historical love letter was originally commissioned and produced at the Denver Center Theatre Company with playwright Lauren Gunderson.

The Pay-What-You-Can performance for The Book of Will will be held on Saturday, August 9, at 7:30 p.m. Please note that the Pay-What-You-Can performance serves as the final dress rehearsal for both performers and technicians before the show officially opens. Plan to arrive early, as this is expected to be a well-attended preview performance, and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Pay What You Can Sponsor is Julie Oswald and donations will be solicited.

An Artist Reception will also be held on August 10 after the 2:00 pm opening matinee. Audience members are invited to enjoy refreshments and appetizers and have the opportunity to meet the cast and crew who bring this story to life. Artist Reception sponsored by Edward Jones. Show title sponsor: Mt. Rushmore Brewing Co. / Begging Burro.
