SPEARFISH, SD – The 7th annual Spearfish Battle of the Badges blood drive takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 22nd, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 23rd, at the Spearfish Rec Center, 122 Recreation Lane. The event provides a friendly competition for a good cause for the Spearfish Emergency Ambulance Service, Spearfish Fire Department, and Spearfish Police Department.
The Battle of the Badges allows donors to “choose” their favorite team to support, meaning that their donation would count toward the total number of pints for that department.
Last year, 199 lifesaving units were collected during the Spearfish Battle of the Badges, and organizers are hoping for even more blood donations this year! The Spearfish Police Department took home the trophy the first year of the blood drive, and since then, the trophy remains with the Spearfish Emergency Ambulance Service.
Organizers of the event said that the blood drive has received incredible community support, with local businesses donating food, drinks, and T-shirts for donors. They thanked all local sponsors, as well as donors who have already signed up for the blood drive.
Sign up to donate blood at www.vitalant.org/spearfishbattle or by calling 877-25-VITAL. All blood types are urgently needed, and many eligibility requirements have changed over the last few years. Even if you’ve been told you cannot donate blood in the past, organizers encourage you to check again by calling 877-25-VITAL.
Walk-ins are welcome and will be accommodated as space allows. Donors will receive a free T-shirt and refreshments while supplies last.
