UPDATE 7/23/25: With today’s cool temperatures and forecasted rainfall, the second Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department’s Hydrant Block Party scheduled today for College Park is postponed to next Wednesday, July 30 from 1-3 p.m.

RAPID CITY, SD—The second Hydrant Block Party of the summer is scheduled for Wednesday, July 23 at College Park.

The fun-filled event will be held from 1-3 p.m. and will be hosted by the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. The first hydrant party of the season was held at Sioux Park last month, attracting hundreds of kids and family members.

The hydrant parties are free and open to all ages with fire department staff turning on the fire truck hoses to get participants wet.

The parties include lots of water, games and fun!  Staff from the Rapid City Fire Department, Rapid City Police Department, Rapid City Public Library, Solid Waste Division and Parks and Rec participate and support the event.

“The first hydrant block party was a great success. Everyone gets wet at the hydrant parties!” said Parks and Recreation Special Events Coordinator Lindsey Myers.  “It’s always a great time with lots of fun, laughter, smiles and noise. It’s a great way to cool off and it’s hard to tell who is having the most fun – the kids or the adults.

“Kids are encouraged to bring their squirt guns and other water toys from home.”

In case of inclement weather, the events will be scheduled one week later at the same locations and times.  Check for updates on the Rapid City Parks and Recreation Facebook page.
