RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City police have arrested a woman for arson in connection with a structure fire on St. Charles Street Monday.

In a release, police say 54-year-old Amy Couture was arrested at her residence after security camera footage showed a tan colored SUV leaving the St Charles Street home after smoke could be observed coming from the house.

Police matched the vehicle to Couture and a search warrant was obtained for her home. Authorities report Couture also smelled of gasoline as she was being detained.

Police determined Couture has allegedly sent threatening messages to a resident of the home prior to the fire.

She was subsequently placed under arrest for Second Degree Arson before being transported to the Pennington County Jail.

The fire, in the meantime, involved both the main residence and a detached garage. Fortunately, no one was home at the time, and three animals were able to safely escape the structure.
