Brandon Valley Holds Off Sturgis Post 33

STURGIS, SD – Brandon Valley Post 131 survived a late inning push by Sturgis Post 33 and defeated the Titans 12-6 on Monday at Strong Field.

Brandon Valley got on the board in the top of the first inning after a Sturgis error and led 2-0 through three innings.

Both the Titans and the Lynx scored a run in the fourth inning until Brandon Valley added three more runs in the top of the fifth and three more in the top of the sixth to blow the game open. Post 131 shortstop Ryland Carroll homered to left field in the sixth inning, scoring two runs.

Brandon Valley led 12-3 headed into the bottom of the seventh, when Sturgis rallied for three runs with two outs, until Jeren Andrezjewski struck out to end the game.

Luke Felderman earned the win for Brandon Valley Post 131. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and three runs over five innings, striking out two and walking two. Mason Veld appeared in relief for Post 131.

Brody Royer took the loss for Sturgis Post 33. Royer went one and two-thirds innings, surrendering two runs on one hit, striking out two and walking one.

Sturgis Post 33 (10-12) finished with seven hits and left seven on base. The Titans were led by Egan Cermak and Carter Williams with two hits apiece. Cermak added two runs batted in to his stat line.

Brandon Valley scattered 10 hits in the game. Max Peters went 4-for-5 at the dish, collecting four singles and three RBIs to lead the Lynx. Ryder Mueller pounded out two hits, including one four bagger in three at bats. Post 131 left nine on base.

Titan head coach Paul Pool went through his pitching rotation throughout the game, pulling starting pitcher Brody Royer after 29 pitches in the second inning, Aidan Wood after 25 pitches, Elijah Stroud following 30 pitches and Bridger Battin after 22 throws so they are all ready to pitch Tuesday in a home doubleheader against Spearfish. First game is scheduled for 5pm.

Brandon Valley Post 131 (15-12) beat Spearfish Post 164 by a score of 4-0 in the opening game on Monday night at Strong Field and will travel to Rapid City Post 320 for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
