Rapid City – On Saturday, Main Street Square transformed from a green lawn and water fountains spewing high into the air into a yellow and black sea as Strider Bikes prepared the area for the annual Strider Cup.
The bandshell became the starting gate. Much attention to detail was witnessed as planking was fitted and secured to cover the stairs of the bandshell creating a ramp-way into the main racing area. Pylons were placed to indicate the proper route for the young Strider riders to follow. Starting and finishing pennants danced in the wind while an inflatable Strider arch, secured by sandbags, indicated the final destination and the area where judges awaited for many a photo finish.
This national level Strider sanctioned event had over 150 participants aged two, three and four with some traveling as far as Canada to compete for a trophy and show their skills on their Strider Bikes. A swag bag was provided by sponsors: DrinkLMNT, Scheels, That’s it, Once upon a Farm and Who’s Toys.
A cheer station where family and friends could create posters and receive pom-poms to encourage their favorite rider was located near several local food trucks on a closed-off section of 6th Street. An inspection station was also evident in that area to ensure fairness in competition.
