Rapid City Post Speaks to SD AG and other leaders after his US House Announcement. Marty Jackley speaks to Rapid City Post about the U.S. House race in an exclusive interview.
The Rapid City Post spoke to South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley earlier today after a recent story in KELOLAND broke the news to South Dakota that there was a new candidate for the US House seat in 2026. The campaign season is well underway, as recent candidates are launching their statewide office efforts. The current United States House Representative, Dusty Johnson, is set for an upcoming announcement next week.

While speaking with RaPo, Marty Jackley talked about his upcoming race. “I am humbled by the outpouring of encouragement I have received across South Dakota to run for Congress. It has become clear that President Trump needs more true conservative allies in Congress to help him pass his agenda, so I am preparing to run for the House. I will work with the President to fight corruption, secure our borders, strengthen our national defense, reduce the size of government, and cut taxes for hard-working Americans. As South Dakota’s Attorney General, I have been proud to support the President and the America First Agenda that voters overwhelmingly backed last November.”
The Rapid City Post chatted with a variety of politicos around the state to get some reactions. Denise Maher, of South Dakota Strong, a leading conservative group that recently held a fundraiser for Jackley, expressed excitement. In an era where robust and principled leadership is crucial, Marty Jackley stands out as a leader who not only listens but also takes action, demonstrating integrity, compassion, and a clear vision for our state. He has effectively served South Dakota as Attorney General, and we are pleased to hear that he is entering the race for the US House of Representatives. “
Pat Powers, who operates South Dakota’s longest conservative blog, dakotawarcollege.com, was not surprised by the move. “Somebody who has run in multiple statewide ballots, he has an obvious high name ID for this race. ”
We spoke with Mayor Jason Saluman of Rapid City about the announcement, and he replied with a positive attitude. “I have great respect for Marty Jackley and his commitment to conservative values. He is an excellent Attorney General for South Dakota and would be an exceptional choice to represent our great state in the U.S. House.”
Jackley said that as the summer continues, he will be speaking with constituents around the state about the issues they care about and looks forward to those conversations.
