RAPID CITY, SD — Next week, nonprofit blood services provider Vitalant will be hosting their 20th annual “Guns n’ Hoses” Blood drive. This drive will be kicked off by the winner of an obstacle course race between representatives of the RCPD and RCFD.

Far from being exclusive to the departments, Vitalant is calling on the public to pitch in to cover for an increased need for blood in the summer by signing up to participate in the event, which will begin with the competition at 10:15am before the blood drive officially begins at 11am inside uptown rapid on the 24th. The drive will be open in the days following as well, from 11am-5pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by 8am-2pm on Thursday and Friday. ” For the past 20 years, we have been deeply moved by the unwavering support of our local Police and Fire Departments—and the incredible community that stands beside them. Your dedication to our blood drives has made a lasting impact on the lives of patients in need of lifesaving transfusions. Summer is a season when blood donations often decline, even as the need for transfusions rises. Yet year after year, your generosity and commitment help ensure that blood is available when it’s needed most.” says Vitalant representative Tori Valiant.

“This blood drive is a summer event our agency looks forward to each year.” said RCPD Community Relations Specialist Brendyn Medina, “It’s an amazing opportunity to interact with the public in a positive manner, all for a common goal of sustaining the local blood supply”.

All donors will be given a free T-Shirt and entered into a door prize drawing, and may enjoy free refreshments.
