DAILY GOOD: Leo’s Joy Ride – A Stair Lift Built on Love

In a quiet neighborhood where kindness still lives next door, one man proved that compassion can move mountains. Or at least build a stair lift.

Kimmy and her daughter had been quietly carrying the weight of love on their backs. Their senior dog, struggling with age and unable to manage the stairs, still longed for his daily joy… the feel of sunshine on his face and the familiar breeze of his backyard. Every trip up and down was a struggle, but they did it out of love, because that’s what family does.

One day, a neighbor named Shawn L. saw their quiet struggle. He didn’t ask for anything. He simply came over and said, “Let me help.” With wood, wheels, and a whole lot of heart, he built something extraordinary. A custom lift named “Leo’s Joy Ride” so their pup could continue experiencing the little joys that make life worth living.

The cart is hand-painted with love. Tiny hearts, blue and brown handprints, and the names Po and Luna tell a story of loyalty, family, and compassion. At the bottom, it reads “Est. 06/2025 by Shawn L.” This marks not just the date the lift was built, but the moment kindness showed up in its purest form.

Shawn and his wife, Leslie, know this heartache. They lost their own beloved dog, Douglas, in February. They understand what it means to watch a best friend grow old and how helpless it can feel. That grief became empathy. That empathy became action.

This lift is not just a ride. It is a love letter to pets who grow old too soon, to families doing their best, and to neighbors who show up without being asked.

In Kimmy’s words, “Kindness is a lifestyle, not an act.”

And in this small corner of the world, kindness is alive and well, rolling on four wheels and painted with love.
