Fire crews battling two wildfires Monday afternoon

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Fire crews battled a wildfire south of Rapid City Monday afternoon.

The Big Horn Fire was burning due south of Sheridan Lake Road southwest of Rapid City or 2 miles northwest of Rockerville.

The fire burned under an acre and was listed as contained by late Monday afternoon.

It was burning on private property as federal, state and local resources responded.

Lightning is listed as the cause of the fire.

Another fire, named the Erikson Road Fire, was 5 miles southwest of Sturgis on Forest Service property.

The fire was a half acre in size with federal, state and local resources responding.

Lightning is also listed as the cause of this fire.
