It was a great display on both sides of the ball for the Post 22 Hardhats on Thursday night, as they beat Huron Post 7 by a score of 6-0 at Floyd Fitzgerald Stadium. Leading the charge was Jace Morgan, who couldn’t be kept off the basepaths, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three singles and two stolen bases.
The Hardhats didn’t waste any time getting on the board. In the second inning, Blayn Hunt roped a two-run double to put Post 22 ahead early, and they never looked back. Hunt would finish the game with two RBIs, while Dexter Steen added two of his own to keep the pressure on Huron’s defense.
But the true star of the night was on the mound. Jadon Moreno played very well, tossing a complete-game no-hitter over seven innings. The right-hander struck out seven and allowed just two walks, completely silencing the Huron bats and keeping the crowd engaged with his efficient and dominant performance.
“The big story was Jadon Moreno throwing a no hitter, seven innings, six strikeouts, two walks.” Remarked Head Coach Kelvin Tore.” Jadon competed wonderfully because he wasn’t sharp to start the game. He got into a lot of three ball counts. He walked a couple guys early, but he competed and as the game went on, he got felt more comfortable and by the end of the game he was just dominating the game.”
Brady Feenstra took the loss for Huron, surrendering six runs (five earned) across four innings. While he battled through a tough lineup, the Hardhats’ offense proved too much.
Morgan’s hot bat and heads-up base running gave Post 22 an added spark, and the team’s clean defense helped seal the shutout win.
Looking Ahead
Post 22 continues its strong start to the summer season and will look to carry the momentum into Friday’s matchup against the Laramie Rangers AA 18U.
