Salt spill slows traffic near Broken Boot Mine Friday

DEADWOOD, S.D. – Deadwood Fire and Rescue assisted Deadwood Fire and Police with a spill on the highway Friday.

Authorities say the call came in at 3:43 p.m. for a significant spill of salt on the highway near Broken Boot Mine.

Firefighters assisted with traffic control and clean up of the salt on the roadway.

Due to the amount of salt in the roadway, heavy equipment was requested from the City of Deadwood and S.D. Department of Transportation.

Operators from both agencies were quick to respond and we were able to get traffic restored quickly.

Assisting agencies were Deadwood PD, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dept, Deadwood Public Works, and the SD Dept of Transportation.
